Our School

We are very proud of our school and its long heritage serving and educating the children of the village of Marton cum Grafton and its surrounding areas since 1861.

We are a forward thinking staff with supportive Governors; all of us want the best for our pupils and everyone works hard to achieve this aim.

The learning environment within our school is vibrant and welcoming. We offer all our children a challenging, creative curriculum, seeking the highest standards and developing a stimulating and secure learning environment, embracing Christian understanding of everyone’s needs and differences, achieved through effective communication and leadership.

At Marton cum Grafton School, there is a caring, family atmosphere where relationships are quickly formed. On joining the school, children rapidly become an integral part of the community. We hope to encourage parents to play a valuable role, not only in supporting their own children, but offering to help at school in a variety of ways. Together we hope to provide the children with a firm foundation for the future.

We achieve extremely highly and have recently featured in The Tatler’s, ‘Top Ten State Primary Schools’ list. We have high expectations for all children, whatever their ability, encouraging them to achieve their best.

In our most recent OfSTED report (October 2014), "achievement and progress of pupils was outstanding", said inspectors, as was the quality of the teaching, pupils’ behaviour and early years’ provision. It was recognised that the curriculum is extensively enriched by music, sport, outdoor learning and visits and that pupils’ attitude to learning in lessons and throughout the school is exceptional. The inspector was impressed with the excellent relationships that staff have with pupils,  resulting in a very positive climate for learning in all lessons which means that pupils learn and achieve exceptionally well during their time at this school

Leadership from the Headteacher, Marie-Louise Thirlaway was singled out for praise with inspectors saying the school is “expertly led and managed by the Headteacher. There is a highly successful and shared vision of the pursuit of excellent teaching and high standards in all of the school’s work.”

The work of the governors was highlighted as was the partnership with parents which was described as "exceptional".

Our school is very much part of the village and local community and we strongly believe that we can only achieve the best for our children with everyone’s help and support.
